Teach English as a door to share and model Christian values and living. Through teaching English, build relationships and help multiply the established and growing house church network.
Chile is a relatively stable country with a large spectrum of climates and cultures. In Chiloé (an archipelago in southern Chile), there is rain for 10 months of the year. It is a challenging climate, rural and isolated. However, the culture is easy to adapt to and welcoming to foreigners. While there is obvious spiritual oppression, people are very open to the gospel. This environment is ripe for simple church movements.
Supervisors and colleagues
This person will work with Rodger and Noemi Teeter, and with a school staff/education department, depending on the specifics of the assignment. The teacher will be supervised by the Teeters, EMM Regional Representatives Michael and Nancy Hostetter, and possibly by education or civic leaders.
Skills and experience
A teaching certificate is not necessary in Chile, but a college degree is required for full-time employment. ESL teaching experience is preferred, and insight into the needs of children in boarding schools is very helpful. Some simple or house church experience or understanding is desired. Applicants should be able to work independently and dependably, with the ability to live in isolated areas. Anyone living in Chile should be aware of the endemic problem of child sexual abuse; trauma counseling experience is helpful. Applicants must have intermediate proficiency in Spanish.
