Natural Church Development
What makes churches grow?
The Institute for Natural Church Development has conducted extensive worldwide research to discern what makes churches healthy, and from this research has formed a strategy proven to increase the health of churches.

The Natural Church Development tool works by surveying members on how they feel the church is doing in numerous areas. That data corresponds to eight different “quality characteristics”:
  • Empowering leadership
  • Gift-oriented ministry
  • Passionate spirituality
  • Inspiring worship services
  • Functional structures
  • Need-oriented evangelism
  • Holistic small groups
  • Loving relationships

Results of the survey then provide church leadership the opportunity to see important “big picture” needs for growth. A church group forms to analyze the information, create a plan to address these needs (beginning with the weakest characteristic), and implement the plan.

Natural Church development does not intend to reduce God’s work to a human system, but to help church structures release the Holy Spirit to work more freely in congregational life.
