New shorter-term opportunities

GO! assignments enable individuals, young adults, adults, congregations, and others to train and serve in short-term cross-cultural missions.

Assignments last from one week up to one year and range from congregational ministry and service teams, to pioneer exploratory teams, to individual "test the call" assignments. Other possible teams include prayer teams, "encourage the worker" teams, and rapid-response teams to meet urgent needs. EMM sends up to five GO! teams per year.

EMM designs and fully coordinates these assignments for those age 18 or older who want to join with other adults in cross-cultural ministry, or who desire individual assignments. Training is required for all assignments: two days of training for trips of three weeks or less; more for the longer teams. Debriefing occurs upon return.

GO! Spring Break 2009
February 28 to March 8, 2009
Application Deadline: January 9, 2009

Peru
Visit remote villages with medical and community health workers. Help the Peruvian Mennonite Church with construction projects, and teach English at a bilingual school in Cusco. Learn about the ancient Incan culture and interact with their descendants, the Quechua. Visit ancient archeological sites like Machu Picchu.

West Africa
In a tribal area, work with EMM missionaries and local church leaders in agricultural and development projects with the goal of seeing churches grow across the nation. Interact with African believers.

Israel and the West Bank
Serve in Israel and the West Bank. Be involved with Arab and Jewish families. Hear the stories from Palestinian Christians. Learn more about the area where Jesus lived, and serve with ministries that are seeking reconciliation in this troubled land 2,000 years later.

GO! Assignments: Summer 2009
June 1 to August 8, 2009
Application Deadline: April 17, 2009

Peru
Work with PROSIM, a mobile health clinic program, in the nutrition program. This assignment may include traveling to remote villages and assisting with work in Cusco. Serve at a local bilingual school. Some Spanish language ability is preferred for this assignment, but not required. A two-week intensive language class can be arranged by request.

Kenya
Work in western Kenya with the church that has been instrumental in facilitating EMM’s outreach to Internally Displaced Persons since the crisis that followed elections in December 2007. This church has chosen to reach out across tribal divisions and even host “enemy” tribes because that is how Jesus would have them respond. Be involved with orphans and in HIV/AIDS and education programs. Participants must be flexible.

China
Study one of the hardest languages in the world in a four-week intensive language immersion program, and then spend four weeks teaching English and building relationships. Experience one of the world’s fastest-growing economies while relating with students who are eager to learn about culture and religion outside of China. Great exposure for anyone interested in missions or business in China.

North Africa
Study Arabic and live in a host family in an ancient city. Serve in local ministries, meet with local believers, and pray that the Lord would open the doors for more workers to be released into ministry in this mostly Muslim country.

Israel
Participate in a variety of ministries with both Arabs and Jews in the West Bank and Israel. Be an encouragement and a witness in this turbulent area. This team will serve at Bethlehem Bible College and in the Nazareth region.

Himalayas
Share with believers and nonbelievers in remote villages of a small Hindu nation in the Himalayas. Encourage local believers and pastors, and serve in hard-to-reach villages of this mountainous country.

Bethlehem, Israel
Length: 3 months to 18 months
Help at a Christian guest house at Bethlehem Bible College. Serve the college as they provide a place for tourists and service teams who are visiting the Holy Land. Help in the college’s gift shop, with ongoing maintenance and construction projects, and teach English in the community. Arabic lessons are available but English is widely spoken in the community.

GO! Assignments: Approximately 1 year

Home School Helpers Wanted
Serve EMM missionaries by helping to coordinate home school activities for their children. Be involved in the community through language and cultural study as well as other ministry possibilities. Service locations include China, Central Asia, and Europe.

China
Length: 6 months to 18 months
Enroll as a full-time university student in Mandarin language. Work with EMM long-term workers in reaching out to students. Learn the culture and walk with believers in one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic churches in the world. This is a great opportunity for college students, couples, pastors on sabbatical, business people, or others who are interested in China.

Delhi, India
Length: 3 months to 1 year
Work with India New Life Missions in training and discipling leaders. Teach English and travel to Kerala. Take “prayer journeys” into unreached regions.

Pakistan
Length: 6 months to 1 year
Work in the earthquake-damaged region of Pakistan; a couple or single male preferred.
Serve with an existing non-governmental organization. Experience in construction, teaching English, computers, or economic development is preferred.

Cusco, Peru
Length: 2 weeks to 2 months (January and February)
Work in construction and cleaning at PROMESA, a bilingual school in Cusco. Teach an intensive English course to students. Many helpers are needed.
