Youth Evangelism Service

YES provides opportunities for young adults (ages 18-30) to grow spiritually through an intensive, hands-on learning experience. YES teams of four to six people receive eight to ten weeks of training at a discipleship center in the inner city before serving for four or eight months with a congregation, a ministry, or missionaries. YES assignments conclude with a couple weeks of post-field training. Participants are challenged to go deeper in their relationships with Christ and with others.

YES Opportunities
(ages 18-30)
9 - 11 month assignments beginning September 2008
Application deadline: July 11

>> Special Opportunity! <<
Pakistan (Sept. to July 2009)
Many people in the area between Pakistan and India are still suffering from the effects of the devastating earthquake in October 2005. Work with another organization to help establish a Peace and Education Center and teach computer skills, English, and Anabaptist peace studies.

>> Special grant funds available (by application) for Pakistan team members.

Kenya (Sept. to July 2009)
Work with the Kenyan church to reach out to those affected by the violent political crisis that followed elections in early 2008. A church in Western Kenya in the village of Songhor has been instrumental in facilitating EMM’s outreach to Kenya’s Internally Displaced Persons. The church has chosen to reach out across tribal divisions and even host people from “enemy” tribes. This team will also work with HIV/AIDS programs, orphans, and education programs. Team members must be flexible, given that the situation on the field is somewhat unpredictable.

North Africa (Sept. to May 2009)
Have a pioneering spirit and a desire to take initiative? Stay with host families and build relationships in an ancient North African city with few Christian believers. Learn Arabic, pray, and work in a children’s home.

China (Sept. to July 2009)
Learn one of the hardest languages in the world and experience one of the world’s fastest growing economies while relating with students who are eager to learn about culture and religion outside of China. This team will primarily be studying Mandarin language, while taking opportunities to share their faith in relational ways and being part of prayer teams that travel throughout the country.

Sudan (Sept. to May 2009)
Work in part of Sudan affected by drought, famine, and war. This team will go with a passion for prayer and intercession, and with hearts and eyes open to see the ways that the Lord might want us to get involved with his people in this country. Passionate, adventurous, and flexible people are encouraged to apply for this assignment.

Guatemala (Sept. to July 2009)
Work at the Bezaleel Christian School and help to develop a music and drama team with the school students to visit churches around the country. The K’ekchi’ churches often have weekend Youth Campaigns, large gatherings with hundreds of young people. The church would like the YES team work with some of the K’ekchi’ students to develop dramas and musical ministries for the weekend Youth Campaigns. This team may also teach English and organize free time activities for the students.

Spain (Sept. to May 2009)
Work with the local church in various ministries throughout a city. Help with music ministry, evangelism, discipleship, and street dramas. There will be opportunity to work with a variety of children’s ministries and with small group ministries.
