Who is involved?

EMM is excited to partner with Steep Adventures, an adventure fundraising company that works with nonprofits and charitable causes to support projects locally and globally.

What is adventure fundraising?

Participants sign up for an adventure challenge and agree to pay for trip expenses, as well as raising a set dollar amount that directly supports a specific cause.

What’s the cause?

PROMESA is a K–12 Peruvian Mennonite school. PROMESA was started to give Peruvian children a quality Christian education, as well as to provide indigenous Quechua children an education alternative free from racial discrimination. Click to watch a video about PROMESA.

Ever since its beginning in 2005, PROMESA has gathered in a local Mennonite church building. Now that about 300 students are enrolled, the school has outgrown its building and is unable to enroll every new child who wants a PROMESA education.

Many children were being turned away due to lack of space and insufficient facilities, so the church purchased land in the mountains outside Cusco to construct a new school building. Volunteers from Engineering Ministries International (EMI) have created a three-phase construction plan. Walk through the planned campus here.

Just over $1 million is needed for site preparation and phase one of building classrooms. Funds raised through this adventure trek will help PROMESA build a road and a bridge leading to the mountainside site of its future building.

What’s the cost?

There are two options:

  1. Land and air ($2,395). Includes land and air costs from Miami, Fla., and back. Adventurers will get to the Miami International Airport on their own and leave from there for Cusco, Peru, with Steep Adventures on Saturday, October 14. The return flight will arrive in Miami on October 24.

  2. Land only ($1,650). Adventurers arrange their own air travel to and from Cusco, Peru. They’ll meet the group in Cusco on Sunday, October 15, and leave after 3 p.m. on October 24.

Participants will also fundraise or find sponsors for the trip. Money raised will go toward PROMESA’s new building project. Participants are working together toward a fundraising goal of $80,000.
