Give toward the growth of an East African theological college

In 1936, EMM started the Mennonite Theological College of Eastern Africa (MTCEA) to train young church leaders. Today, the college is run by Tanzania Mennonite Church. But in recent years, the college struggled. In 2016, enrollment had dwindled to just three students.

Tanzania Mennonite Church has about 65,000 members, and MTCEA is the primary training school for its leaders. The church knew that training young leaders was vital for the future, so church leaders began a campaign to revitalize the college. And their hard work was rewarded when 90 students enrolled in 2017!

The college still has a long way to go, though. The Board of Governors has decided that the next steps must include:

  • Strengthening the administrative structure
  • Developing the facilities to accommodate up to 100 students
  • Establishing a secure financial base through grants and contributions from churches and individuals

While at least 50% of the college’s budget will come from within Tanzania, the global family of Christ is invited to help with the rest. Your gift to the Mennonite Theological College of Eastern Africa could help sponsor a new student, provide a desk for a classroom, or give a student a mattress to sleep on at night. And your prayer support is just as vital!

$25 provides a classroom desk and chair
$75 provides a bed with a mattress and bedding
$550 sponsors a student for one year
