Every EMM worker's primary focus is to make disciples of Jesus. Contribute to an inner-city church by assisting in children’s ministry, Sunday worship, immigrant ministry, and/or church building renovation and maintenance.

Regional vision
Our long-term vision is to start discipleship training centers in urban areas of Europe to serve as a springboard for sending out individuals and teams to Eastern Europe's largely unreached population. We are exploring partnerships and mission efforts in Spain, and plans are underway to form an EMM team to connect into Marseille, France.

Upon arrival in Germany, the church development worker will contribute to inner-city church and community outreach by assisting in any or all of the following areas:

  • Immigrant/refugee ministry (currently a focus)
  • Children’s ministry
  • Sunday worship team
  • Church building renovation and maintenance
  • Relating to the church ministry team

All long-term and short-term missionaries engage in Launch, EMM’s discipleship training course, before and during their assignments. Phase one of Launch includes personal discipleship activities through online modules. For phase two of Launch, participants spend one to two weeks learning alongside their Launch cohort (a group of others preparing for service) before heading to their outreach locations. In phase three of Launch, workers continue to connect online with their Launch cohort for up to a year as they navigate ministry in their country of service.

Halle is a mid-sized city in Eastern Germany which, up until the recent waves of immigration, reflected a mostly post-communist culture. The team and church work in the inner city, where there is a rapidly growing mix of international residents among what was predominantly an ethnically German population. The religious tone of the area is mostly atheistic and agnostic, with a small percentage of Christians and a growing number of Muslims and devotees of other religions. Current events are rapidly changing the demographics of Germany.

Supervisors and colleagues
The church development worker will work with the EMM team and Soli Deo church. The team leaders and West Europe regional representatives will be the key supervisors.

Skills and experience
It’s recommended that applicants have some form of post-high school training or education. Experience, or at least interest in social work or psychology, is helpful. A background and/or skills related to immigrant/refugee ministry would be very beneficial. Applicants must enjoy inner-city ministry and be self-motivated. Anyone joining this team is expected to work toward proficiency in German or possibly in an immigrant language (e.g. Arabic or Persian).
