Work with PROSIM, the medical outreach arm of the Peruvian Mennonite Church.
Peru is a relatively stable country with attractive ancient cultural sites and a breathtaking landscape. Cusco, Peru, is at a high altitude, and the adjustment often takes some time for foreigners. The culture is friendly, but not in the same gregarious and warm way that Central American cultures are known for. There is an openness to outsiders and to the gospel, despite evident spiritual oppression. The school, PROMESA, was originally begun by EMM missionaries to provide a quality Christian education to underserved children.
Supervisors and colleagues
The medical worker will work with the EMM team as well as the local church, and PROSIM. In particular they will support Gloria, director of PROSIM. Supervision will come from the Peruvian Mennonite Church, the EMM country team leader, and Regional Representatives Mike and Nancy Hostetter.
Skills and experience
The medical worker will need experience with preventative healthcare and the ability to educate others on this subject. College degree highly recommended. Applicants must have intermediate proficiency in Spanish. Those interested in longer-term work are preferred. All applicants should be able and willing to work on a multicultural team.
