Every EMM worker's primary focus is to make disciples of Jesus. Intern at The Stroopie Co., a benefit corporation that bakes traditional Dutch cookies (“stroopwafels”) while providing employment to the refugee community in Lancaster County. Learn how kingdom business can be a vehicle for holistic transformation in people’s lives. Preferred deadline for applications is March 1 each year.

Regional vision
EMM’s vision is to see everyone moving in mission, following God’s leading to share Him within their own unique contexts. EMM will continue to work for spiritual renewal in North America and partner with existing churches and networks as they engage in missions. We hope to foster deep and transformative movements of discipleship across this continent.


The business for transformation intern will work alongside employees from the various refugee communities in Lancaster in marketing, production, and/or other areas of the business according to their skills and passions and the needs of The Stroopie Co.

All mission interns are engaged in Launch, EMM’s discipleship training course, before and during their internships. Phase one of Launch includes personal discipleship activities through online modules. For phase two of Launch, interns spend a week learning alongside their Launch cohort (a group of other interns preparing for service) before heading to their outreach locations. In phase three of Launch, interns continue to connect online with their Launch cohort as they join a long-term missionary in the country of service.

The city of Lancaster is a small multicultural center in the middle of a county whose economy is driven by Amish tourism and agriculture. The climate has four distinct seasons, with hot, humid summers and cold, often snowy winters. Over the past decade, Lancaster has become a destination for refugees from many nations; this has significantly altered the demographics of the area.

Supervisors and colleagues
This person will work alongside Jonathan and Jennie Groff (business owners) and their staff. Along with supervision from the business, there will also be regular check-ins with EMM’s discipleship and training coach.

Skills and experience
Applicants must be high school graduates. They should be skilled in or willing to grow in cross-cultural communication, with an open and learning spirit. They should have some experience, education, and/or interest in business. Applicants should be willing to live in an urban setting.
