Nathanael Davis, a mission intern with Eastern Mennonite Missions in Belize, used his skills as an American Sign Language interpreter to work with the Ministry of Education in putting on the 20th annual National Spelling Bee for the Deaf on December 3, 2015. Davis spent four months preparing for the bee. Eleven Deaf high school students competed on the national level, and winners were awarded prizes such as bicycles, Kindles, and dictionaries. Davis continues to work with the Ministry of Education to improve teaching techniques for the Deaf and to design the first interpreter training program in Belize, among other things. He also preaches and disciples at Jesus’ Deaf Church in Orange Walk.
