SALUNGA, Pa. — Krista Martin began her role as Kingdom Team director for Eastern Mennonite Missions (EMM) on April 9, 2018. The focus of the Kingdom Team program is to provide opportunities for youth groups to serve refugees and immigrants alongside local community partners in Lancaster, Pa., while also participating in activities and sessions designed to strengthen their walk of discipleship. Kingdom Teams work with refugee children and youth through clubs, crafts, tutoring, English conversation activities, sports and games, and other activities that build community and exemplify the love of Christ.
EMM Discipleship Coach Troy Landis said, “The Kingdom Team program is a crucial part of the mission God has given to EMM to cross cultures, engage the world, and make disciples.”
Continuing to develop the Kingdom Team program, Martin will coordinate planning details, oversee the daily activities of the Kingdom Teams, provide evaluation for the program, and make initial preparations for the 2019 season.
Most recently, Martin worked as a foster care and adoption social worker for Bethany Christian Services in Lancaster. Having served on a 2009–2010 EMM YES team to Southeast Asia, and also at EMM’s Harrisburg Discipleship Center, Harrisburg, Pa. from 2010–2011, she brings meaningful cross-cultural and discipleship experience to the Kingdom Team program.
“I am excited to return to EMM as the Kingdom Team director,” said Martin. “I am eager to walk alongside the Kingdom Team summer staff, as they lead the Kingdom Teams and create an authentic experience of discipleship in which we will all learn and grow together.”
Martin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Millersville University, Millersville, Pa. She is a member of Living Light Mennonite Church in Washington Boro, Pa. She and her husband Tim live in Lancaster.
Until 2018, Kingdom Teams were led by Angie Earl, who served as EMM discipleship coordinator for the past three years, along with other EMM staff members. In 2017, Earl transitioned into the role of EMM community engagement coordinator. The position of Kingdom Team director was created in 2017 as a result of Earl’s transition.
