FAQ
Tell me more!
Advance Local runs from September through May. It begins with a week of discipleship training in a community setting together with Advance Global participants. Each individual will be connected to a ministry or non-profit that fits their personal interests and gifts in which they will serve in an intern-like capacity to engage and learn through practical, hands-on experience, as well as receiving one-on-one mentoring and discipleship. Each month, participants will regroup for a day of discipleship training and community building, to discuss learnings and how to put things into practice in outreach. The program concludes with an extended time of debriefing for the cohort.
Can I do Advance Local part-time?
Yes. The opening week of training in September requires a full time commitment. After that initial week, training days will take place once a month in person. Outreach options include full-time, part-time, and flexible schedule opportunities with an expectation of at least 10 hours of ministry per week.
What do the training days look like?
A typical training day runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and involves teaching, discussion, prayer, and frequently, new, hand-ons ministry or learning experiences.
How much does it cost?
Cost for Advance Local is a flat rate of $950 plus any variable add-ons you may choose, such as transportation or housing provisions. The first five applicants get a $50 discount. Scholarships are also available for those who require financial assistance to participate in the program.
What does the outreach look like?
Outreach opportunities may involve children’s ministry, tutoring English language learners, working with immigrants and refugees, one-on-one discipleship, engaging with unreached people groups who live in the U.S., and/or videography. Specific outreach(es) will be arranged based on each individual’s interests, gifting, and availability.
